We were represented by 3 swimmers: Hallie, Ryan and Nicholas. The standard of this Open was extremely high with a very big turnout, especially for the girls with Hallie having over 40 swimmers in each event.
Ryan took 7 seconds off his 200m freestyle time, finishing 13th and also managed a PB in the 50m freestyle.
Nick knocked 10 seconds off his 50m backstroke time to gain 15th place overall; and in the very last race, the 50m breaststroke he took over 3 seconds off to win a gold medal.
Both boys have never competed in an Open before, so this is an excellent result.
Hallie gained in PBs in 5 out of her 6 events, knocking 16 seconds off her 200m freestyle time. She managed a respectable 9th in the 100m IM, and just missed out on a medal with a 4th in the 50m backstroke. In her last race she pulled out all the stops to win the 50m breaststroke, beating 43 other swimmers.
If you are interested in entering Open Meets, please ask Fiona, Anne or Jackie.
Congratulations to Lauren Sullivan for her gold in 4 x 100m freestyle relay, 2nd in the 400m freestyle (for London) and 2nd (for Wales) in the Medley Relay at the British Junior Disability Championships.
Lauren was also awarded certificates in the London Disability Records in S6 Disability class for 100m Back and 100m Free. Lauren bravely battled on despite dislocating her shoulder, in one of her races.
The Turnbull Gala is being held at Cheam Leisure Centre on Tuesday 15th May. Warm up is at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start. Please arrive no earlier than 7pm to avoid congestion in the changing rooms. This Gala is open to all swimmers who did not win a gold medal in last year's Club Championships or Turnbull Gala. All events are one length and your child may enter any 2 events. Entry to this Gala is free so all eligible swimmers should enter. Hand in your completed entry form to Fiona at the Cheam Desk or Anne at Morden as soon as possible. Entries must be received by Tuesday 8th May. We also need parents to volunteer to do various jobs on poolside at the Turnbull Gala. Saturday 24th March saw the 2nd round of this years Octopus League, with the club taking 1st place.
With a number of 1st places in the relays there were also some impressive individual swims from Molly Davies 25m U11 free, Hannah Morris 50m U13 back, Lucy Semikin 50m U19 fly and Ryan Moss 25m U13 fly.
Well done's to Dario Jakovic for taking part for the first time at this gala. Thanks to Craig Reid, who even once his races had finished stayed with the team to cheer the other swimmers on and to William Kyriacou and Louise Parish for helping with the younger swimmers.
The club took part, for the first time, in the Alice Dauncey Memorial Trophy Gala.
This was a time restricted gala, at the K2 in Crawley. The squad rose to this new challenge, with some fantastic performances, PB's and plenty of great swims.
With 1st places going to Maya Ridge 50m Fly, Lucy Semikin 50m Back and Nicholas Hands-Heart for 50m Breast and 50m Back.
At the half way point we were laying 2nd out of the 6 other clubs, but this hard fought gala kept all the clubs on their toes through out the evening, with the points going backwards and forwards. In the end we were beaten into 5th place, but not without a fight!
Again and again the team pulled together with cheers of support for each member. Well done to everyone that took part.

From January 2012 the current payment system of paying by cash or cheque will be replaced by everyone setting up a standing order payment for their monthly subs. Attached is a standing order request form which provides all the information required for online banking, or you can print out and take the form to your bank for them to set up the standing order. Please ask your bank to put your child's name as a reference on the payment.
We would ask that you set up a standing order payment as soon as possible as we will only be excepting cash/cheque payments during January, February and March. As from the 1st April 2012 all swimmers must have their monthly subs paid by standing order.
Depending on how many training sessions you attend the monthly fees for 2012 will be:
August will remain on a Pay as you Go basis and therefore no monthly subscription is due for August. You may therefore either set up your standing order to pay Jan - July and September - December, or it may be easier to set it up Jan - Nov.
Each session attended in August should be paid for individually at £4 per session.
The Annual Membership Fee (which includes ASA and London Region fees) for 2012 will remain the same as it has done for the past couple of years. Swimmers under 16 years of age pay £50 per year with a reduction of £5 per sibling (up to a maximum of 3 siblings) off this fee. Swimmers who are over 16 years old pay £12.50 per year. Swimmers who are taught in the teaching pool are exempt from this fee.
The Annual Membership Fee must be paid by cash or cheque at your child's first swimming session in January. Fiona at Cheam and Anne at Morden/Banstead will collect this fee.
