Gala team selection process (updated 27 April 2010)

Throughout the year the club attends a variety of galas and the selection process for each one is slightly different depending on the criteria applied to each one. The following details the process that the head coach, team manager and competition secretary look for when selecting swimmers to participate in each gala. In all cases we look to swim the best possible team with a view to finishing each gala in the highest position that we can. The leagues that we are swimming in are full at present and we have no scope to enter a B squad in any of these.

Wey B league

This league is time restricted and is for under 14 years only. We first look at all swimmers that have times registered to ensure that they are not too fast; any that are too fast are immediately discounted. We then look at any swimmers without times and on their current performance during training sessions; sometimes swimming off against a number of swimmers. Overall performance of these two groups is then used before a final decision is made. The final decision on who swims which event is then made between the three people above and invitations sent out to the parents.

Octopus league

This league is now time restricted and is for under 17 years only.

Rother league

This league is for swimmers from 10 years upwards. We first look at all swimmers that have times registered and then for swimmers without times. We then compare them all with their current performance during training sessions; sometimes swimming off against a number of swimmers. Overall performance of these two groups is then used before a final decision is made. The final decision on who swims which event is then made between the three people above and invitations sent out to the parents.

Arena national league

This league is for swimmers from 9 years upwards.

Internal club galas

The club runs a minimum of two internal galas each year and full details are sent out prior to each one including the entry criteria. There is not normally an age limit but other restrictions may apply.

External club galas

The club occasionally receives invites from other clubs to swim in trophy galas. If we decide to enter then the selection process is similar to the Rother and Arena league selection.

Open meets

These are galas run by other clubs across the country and if our club decides to send a team then swimmers are invited to enter. These are purely the individuals choice if they enter or not and each meet will have a set criteria to meet in order to enter; this is usually time
